Possum is an unusual looking cat who is often called ‘ugly’, but she has been showered with love and care and shown the world that beauty comes from within.
Possum’s owner, Stephanie, is completely used to people calling her beloved cat ‘ugly’, or asking why she looks like that, and nothing upsets her more. The lovely cat has grey fur with random bald patches, she has big ears and eyes and a rat-like tail, but to Stephanie, she is just perfect.
Possum was the runt of her litter which included several other kittens. The mother was a feral cat and Stephanie’s co-worker tried her very hardest to look after them all. All the other kittens looked just like your average domestic cat with their short white hair but Possum was different. She was a lot amller and was almost completely bald.
It was actually suggested that Possum had genes deriving from a werewolf or Lykoi cat because of her patchy fur and narrow face. Lykoi cats have been being bred since the mutation for their genes were discovered in 2010. Lykoi cats look a little bit like canines. These kind of cats are very rare, however, and can be exploited for money if they are not given to the right person.
The heartache for Possum just continued throughout her early stages of life, she was bullied by the other kittens and then when they were adopted, nobody wanted Possum. The only real option was to send her to the local shelter which had a high kill rate. In the South of America, there are a lot of reports of cruelty against cats, people use them as targets for shooting and many don’t really view them as pets. There are lots of stray cats wandering around and Stephanie knew that Possum’s life would be cut extremely short. She knew she had to save Possum and so adopted her.
Stephanie has since showered the beautiful cat with love and has seen the distinctive cat become more confident and happy. Possum is also one of the friendliest cats you will ever meet, she barely ever hisses and is constantly trying to make friends with people. She even purrs gently throughout distressing vet appointments. She’s never tried to claw Stephanie just showing how judging anything by their exterior looks is a very narrow and wrong thing to do.
Possum is just like any other cat, she loves to hunt, play, eat and cuddle. Stephanie hates when people say nasty or negative things about Possum. To her, or basically anybody who knows Possum, she is the sweetest, stunning cat with the biggest heart. For more pictures of the gorgeous cat with (hopefully) even more cute jumpers on, you can follow her on Instagram.
Possum is proof that judging a book by its cover is not the way to live. The loving and beautiful cat has added a loving addition to Stephanie’s home and given Possum a chance at a normal feline life, full of love and cuddles – which every cat deserves.
