It’s International Cat Day, and whilst the hashtag is going crazy and people are sharing all their wonderful cat stories all over the world, we thought we would showcase some of the most famous felines, celebrating the public’s love for cats and their stories into how they made it into the celebrity life.
- Grumpy Cat
Made famous from Social media because of her grumpy facial expressions, she has captured the heart of thousands just from her owners capturing pictures of her! - Catamando
The joint leader of the British political party the Monster Raving Loony party from 1999 to 2002. - Lil Bub
Again, made famous from social media. She is known for her unusual appearance. She has lived the star life, despite being the runt of her litter and now has two million likes on Facebook! She’s even been the star of her own documentary, Lil Bub & Friendz, which won the Tribeca Online Festival Best Feature Film. - Brutus – aka the Morrisons Cat
Famous in a village in Chester purely because he visits the popular supermarket every single day. He currently has 8000 and counting followers on his Facebook page. He has been featured in many newspapers and magazines, but now unfortunately has ill-health. - Mademoiselle Fifi
Pet to John Moisant, the famous engineer, pilot and businessman. Mademoiselle Fifi was on his plane when he flew his first flight with a passenger across the English Channel, which was seen as a huge feat. - Creme Puff
The World’s Oldest Cat! Born in 1967 and died in 2005 – you can do the maths. Owned by Jake Perry. - A Street Cat Named Bob
Now the star of the best-selling book. The book tells the story of Bob, a cat in need of help, who gets adopted by a man who ultimately needed just as much help, without realising. The uplifting book is definitely a must-read for any cat lover. - Casper the Commuting Cat
He was just an average domestic cat who became known for travelling the number three bus in Plymouth all on his own. He inspired the Book Casper the Commuting Cat, which also got turned into a movie. Not bad for a small-town domestic cat from Plymouth. - Marie from Aristocats
Although she is a cartoon, Marie is a family favourite and one of the three stars of the much-loved Disney film which has proved to be a timeless classic. She is quite the little lady, she can be quite spoilt but she is also a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. She is sassy, headstrong and girly. Always wearing her pretty pink ribbon – she does overcome any trouble she is in which is very inspiring. She NEEDED to be added to this list. - Tabby and Dixie Lincoln
Former US President, Abraham Lincoln’s pet cats. Although Lincoln was said to also bring strays into the white house. Lincoln was apparently extremely fond of cats. Many stories derive from his pet cats including when he fed Tabby from the table during a formal dinner. His reply to criticism about this action was; “If the gold fork was good enough for former President James Buchanan, I think it is good enough for Tabby.” Lincoln also once remarked that “Dixie is smarter than my whole cabinet! And furthermore, she doesn’t talk back!”We hope you have an amazing International Cat Day – don’t forget to tell us all about your cats and tell us any stories! We would love to hear about them.
