Well, it’s fair to say that the world isn’t really lacking on cat cafes, recent years has seen them become the next big thing, and we’re not complaining about it.
The most recent of cities to follow the hype is, of course, York. The quirky, fun city, that we’re honestly surprised hasn’t adopted a cat cafe sooner.
It has been eagerly awaited, with many, just like us, questioning what took the unique city so long to catch on. Named The Cat Whiskers, it will be located in a three-story, Grade II listed building, sitting on Goodramgate.
If you’re not aware of what a cat cafe is, it’s exactly (if not better) than what you thought. At cat cafes, you enjoy all the benefits of eating at a cafe, with one little twist; there are cats freely swanning around. We couldn’t think of anything better, to be honest.
What this means is, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, while stroking multiple different cats. Humans love it, cats love it, and it supports local business.
So, who is behind the much-anticipated cat cafe in York? Her name is Lily Cole, and she expects her creation to be open for business in mid-April. So, the waiting is very nearly over. She said: “Cat cafés started in Japan. I visited ones in this country purely for pleasure.
I thought one would be perfect for York. It’s the perfect city for one, with all the tourists, locals and students.”
“We deal with a lot of mental health issues. The job, and the pressures of the job, have certainly affected me sometimes.
I’ve always found a great comfort in having my cats at home. You can come home, relax and sit with a purring cat next to you.
It’s all about relaxing, unwinding, and that feeling of calmness.
I’m aiming for a very calm and relaxing environment, very peaceful, and people can just spend time enjoying their company.”
