Felix the Huddersfield station cat given a promotion

Felix the Huddersfield station cat has been given a promotion after all her hard work catching mice.

The station cat was finally rewarded after years of hard work and dedication for the station. The promotion came about after her mouse-catching services were recognised by the managers at the station.

Felix, the black and white cat, is loved by all at the station including the staff and the commuters, she now has the title of ‘Senior Pest Controller’ at Huddersfield station.

Felix has been patrolling the station for about five years, the new promotion means that she now wears a new high-vis jacket and a name badge for the Transpennine Express rail network. A well-deserved achievement for the kitty who works tirelessly every day, making sure the population of mice in the station is controlled.

Felix joined the Huddersfield station team when she was just nine weeks old – making her the youngest member of staff to join too. She has become such an integral part of the team that she now has her own cat flap built into one of the barriers; this makes it a little bit easier for her to roam around and carry out her duties. She was from a loving family but apparently always wanted to be a working cat.

She was named Felix, which yes, is a boy’s name, colleagues thought Felix was a male cat but after a trip to the vet, it was confirmed that she was in fact a girl. The name kind of just stuck, though, we think it is quite fitting.

The hard working kitty also has a bit of a fan-base now after word travelled about the feline member of staff. She has nearly 95,000 likes on her Facebook page which states:

“My name is Felix and I am the Senior Pest Controller for TransPennine Express at Huddersfield Railway Station in West Yorkshire, UK.”

Felix’s Facebook page also states that her personal interests are: “Eating, sleeping, cuddling, scratching, meowing, pigeon chasing, purring, tummy tickles and cat treats” She also has the award for Best Turned Out Cat at the Pest Control Awards 2016.

You can also follow Felix on Twitter where she posts quite humorous tweets and funny photos such as; “Happy #BlackCatDay everybody. Please don’t tell me there’s a #pigeonday” and “I am hiding after the latest joke…. “How do you find Will smith in the snow?” “Follow the fresh prints!”

Felix starts her day at 6:30am for the start of her long day. She will greet people and accept a lot of attention as recognition for her hard work.

All jokes aside, Felix is a vital part of the station who also brings smiles to people’s faces perhaps when they most need it. Train Stations can be quite boring, tedious and sometimes sad places to be and we think every station should have a little cat helping people get through their day.
